Best non-fiction in the Southeast for 2008
When: Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008
Details: Liz Tucker, author of
Pigs on the Patio, (Legacy Publications), will give a talk about her
rollicking plantation memoir. Pigs on the Patio, was named “Best
non-fiction in the Southeast for 2008” by Independent Publishers,
winning the Gold Medal IPPY Award. Liz is a first-time author. She was
chosen from 600 entries at award ceremonies in Los Angeles as “reward to
those who exhibit courage, innovation, and creativity in Independent
Publishing.” Legacy Publications won the Gold in 2001. Any notion of
Tara is quickly dispelled as, Pigs on the Patio, recounts days gone by;
when a historic rice plantation in Hell Hole Swamp, near Charleston, SC
roars into life once again as her family moves in. The different
stories are told with nostalgic good humor, a fun, uplifting of one’s
spirits in today’s fractious times. Though set in the Lowcountry, the
book can be enjoyed anywhere and it has been warmly received by readers
of all ages. Liz was born and raised in Louisville, KY, but has spent
the remainder of her life in the Lowcountry of SC. She considers both
places “home.” After the talk/book signing, a trip of historical
interest is being planned.
Directions: Hell Hole
Outdoor center is located in the St. Stephen Visitor Center on SC 45
East in
St. Stephen, SC at the
railroad tracks.
